We’ve been Bung residents for almost a year and a half now. I love my dear Bung. It is my dream first house. With that being said, after a year and half, there are some glaring things that have become a NEED in our next house. Which is a good 5-7 years away, by the way.
- Two car garage. Parking our cars in the driveway is getting pretty darn old.
- A bigger kitchen. The Bung kitchen is tight with two of us. Add in some kiddos in the future, and the kitchen will be a bit crowded. I also tend to make a giant mess when I’m cooking and I could use the extra room to sprawl out.
- A second living space. Hosting football parties proves to be problematic when your only choice is the living room, which only seats 5 people comfortably, and maybe 10 with extra chairs. Also, I need somewhere to watch Grey's Anatomy in peace.
- A fireplace. This is just me being vain, but I would really like one.
- Newer windows. Although our original windows look pretty, they are mighty drafty.
Then there are the things that I can’t live without thanks to the Bung.
- Walk in closet. I’ve had one my whole life (minus the 9 months I spent in the dorms). I am a total spoiled brat about it. Finding a walk in closet in a 1924 house was just short of a miracle.
- Gas stove. How did I live before?
- Original wood floors. A must if you’re buying an old house, which we most likely will do again for our next house.
- A master bedroom. One of the things that sold me on our house was our giant bedroom that’s equipped to handle our king sized bed, and the en suite bathroom is so necessary for middle of the night bathroom trips.
What are your must have can't live without items in your house/apartment? What can't wait to have in your next place?

I hear you on the drafty windows. Mine are the same way.
We only have two bedrooms, and I would love a third. I would also like a "tv room" or "den" as a second option to the living room.
I'll most likely be in my house for the long run. We'll add a second floor or something.
We've learned that oh. my. god. we need more space. And a place for a workshop. I'm am so so sick of having huge power tools living in the kitchen.
I'm living in my dream house too, we just (a month ago) got drapes and shades in our bedroom (have lived there for over 3 years!) I don't know why it took us this long to get them (probably because we had to save for them, and it took us that long to save up the money)! I think it's a must have, black out shades, I'm sleeping better then ever! I thought I was sleeping fine before, but nope! Life will never be the same.
I do love my two car garage... and we are going to add it but something we don't have is a patio/outdoor space! I live for those in the summer!
The Bung is such a cute house. I know the one thing I really couldn't live without is just a large enough closet. My dad recently moved and so I downgraded from a walkin closet to a small closet and it's kind of killing me. xo, Maria
Oh I am DYING to buy a house. But most of the homes around here are ranch style homes and I HATE ranch homes. Seriously. The master bedroom in those things are a JOKE. And the closets are as well.
I love your bungalow. :)
I would love a fireplace and a second living space in our next house too! We also want to keep our 2 car garage. More bedrooms is on the list as well since our current house only has 2.
My favorite line in this post? "I love my dear Bung".
Must haves for the next house we purchase: a spacious kitchen (I'm a messy chef too), a garage to contain all of Austin's man items, walk in closets! Our master bedroom had a 9'x5" closet in NJ. Going from that to a house built in the 40's has left me wishing for more closet space.
Bigger kitchen! We are lucky to have a big bedroom and living room/dining area. Also, eventually more than 1 bedroom. But right now I like not being able to accommodate overnight visitors. I'm mean like that.
I moved from 2800 square feet to 1200 and believe me it's an adjustment. But it made appreciate the personal space of others but I also realize how much I love cozy spaces. but I tell you I do love my fireplace. I can light it and the cracklin wood makes me feel at ease.
Ahh new windows... I DREAM of new windows. We had no idea how important they were when we purchased.
A gas stove was a must for us when we bought our house and 2 sinks in the master bathroom haha.
I've really loved having all the main "living areas" {bedrooms, living, kitchen, AND washer dryer} on the same floor. A third bedroom would be delightful however lol... we're hoping to start looking again at the end of the year, so we'll see how that goes. Until then I'll just focus on the positives :)
We moved from our 1300 square foot house downtown to a 2600 square foot house in the suburbs and I LOVE it. We have three living room spaces so it's been daunting trying to furnish them, but this is going to be the perfect house for kids when the time comes. The one thing we had to have was a work area for Jeff and an office for me and we have both!
Very jealous of your gas stove! We're looking at doing that in the kitchen reno, but who knows when that will take place!
I will never get another house, but I'd love an extra room to have people stay. I'd also love a second bathroom. And I'd like to have one floor living. I think when I'm old I'd appreciate that. :)
