Last night Andy and I arrived home to the Bungalow to find that the power only worked in half the house. Our electrical situation that I talked about yesterday had escalated far quicker than we had thought. Luckily, Andy received permission from the utility company yesterday to do the work himself because he is an electrical engineer.
See those rusty looking wires? They are not supposed to look like that. Those are the main wires that feed into our circuit breaker, thus giving the Bungalow power. They had become corroded because the weatherhead (the thing that protects your electrical service from getting rained on) had sprung a leak somewhere.
Andy's dad came over to help, and between the two of them, they were able to replace all the wiring. When it came time to turn the power back on, once again, only half the house worked. After countless rounds of "IS THE UPSTAIRS ON?" and "DID THE FRIDGE TURN ON YET?" being yelled from the basement, we figured out that one of the hot wires from the utility company (every house has two hot wires and a ground wire) was not working. So we have to call the utility company today to have them come out and fix it. Nothing can ever be easy, can it?
Also, please be impressed with my knowledge of electrical things. I asked a lot of questions and Andy was semi-patient with me while I was all up in his business.

My mom lost half the power in my parent's house before, and she thought the world was ending. It was hysterical.
I feel the same way when ever my husband fixes something around the house. I want to be near enough to give him a hand if he needs it but I also ask a ton of questions. Most of the time I understand but if I don't I just nod my head & say Oh....
Ugh that stinks do you have an electric or gas water heater? I would just want a hot shower after camping in my own home! Good luck with all this!
Totally impressed.
Blarg. I hope you get your power back soon.
So your fridge never got power last night? That's nothing short of a huge pain in the ass. Geez! Thank goodness for Andy. I can't believe he had to get permission just because he wasn't an electrician. They'd better get out and fix this crap PRONTO.
candles, flashlights, plane tickets. let me know when you're ready.
I'm totally impressed! Eric is an electrician and I don't know as much as you! I am not the most patient learner, and Eric's not the most patient teacher :) ha ha! But what a pain... I hope it all gets fixed today!
Just come stay with me. Slumber partay!
Booo! That's no fun! But a big hooray for having a handy man or two at your disposal. ;)
I'll be there in 10 hours.
Since I work with him, I learn more than I really want to know. I did come home to a fully powered house last night though!
I used to call him Handy Man. Then it turned into Handy Mandy. Then it turned into Mandrew. Oops.
We managed to rig the circuits so that we had all the essential things powered on.
Gas, THANK GOD.
