Peach Tree Problems

We had a pretty uneventful weekend at the Bungalow. Lots of relaxing, a little pool time, and some good food.

Earlier in the week I went in the backyard to find this:

Our peach tree has some problemos. It's completely misshapen due to the amount of peaches on it and one branch has completely broken off due to the weight of the peaches. Also, my attempt to grow the peaches organically has gone terribly wrong. We are left with a billion small peaches and have bug holes and squirrel bites in them. Obviously, Andy and I are not expert peach growers. And this is our first year with the tree, so I don't feel too horrible about it.

Yesterday Andy went to an orchard with his parents for a wine tasting. The orchard grows all types of different fruit, including peaches. Andy asked the owner about caring for the peach tree, and now we have a wealth of knowledge that will help us next year. When the peaches first start forming, you need to thin them out so that there is only one peach per eight inches of tree, otherwise you are stuck with a billion small peaches like we have now, and not the big juicy peaches that you are accustomed to seeing. Also, the weather this year has been extraordinarily warm, so the fruit crops have matured early and are much smaller than their normal size. Which means I'm going to attempt to pick some tiny peaches after work today. Hopefully there are enough left after the squirrels have had their fill. I saw one munching on a peach on the power line that runs through our backyard this morning. He was like a little tight rope walking peach eater.

So to everyone I promised peaches to... next year... I promise!

I would LOVE a peach tree! You could start a peach canning business...preserves, slices, etc., to start a full time blogging fund!

I love peaches, but I couldn't handle a peach tree.

Chris came home with fish, and put them in the fountain in front of our house. I hope one of the cats eats them.

Next year, remember me.

blackberries are my favorite fruit.
raspberries are my favorite fruit.

clearly i'm indecisive.

Bummer about the peaches for this year! I love peaches and my husband loves them even more. They were super cheap a couple of weeks ago, but all of a sudden they are way expensive again.

If you happen to have too many peaches next year, we'll take some off of your hands.

Why didn't you go along for the wine tasting?

Our apple tree is consistently out of control every other year. This year, no apples. Next year? We'll have more than we can handle and I'll have to have people from Matt's work just take them in the night. Not even joking.

We have a crab apple tree that is out of control with apples. The great thing is the dog eats them.

That's so cool! Jesse makes his own wine sometimes and peach wine would be delicious!

I used to put sunfish in uncle's expensive ass koi pond. He didn't seem to think it was as funny as I did.

Next year I will be sending you some of the most delicious Omaha grown peaches you have ever tasted. Also, probably the only Omaha grown peaches you have ever tasted.

I should start a list. I have a feeling next year is going to be a good year for the peaches.

I was way too busy napping.

I almost think an apple tree would be better. Not so sticky and gross once they fall.

We have a crab apple tree in the front yard that thankfully isn't producing much.

This sounds delicious. I will supply the peaches if you turn it into wine.
