I hear people all the time complaining about what their parents made them listen to in the car growing up. Not me. I had a wonderful music upbringing. I have selected some of my favorites that The Greg (my dad) and I used to listen to.
Green Day - Welcome to Paradise
I seriously thought this song was about me because my middle name is Paradise.
The B-52's - Rock Lobster
My sister and I used to yell the line, "And they all had matching towels!"
Then in middle school, I began to discover my own musical interests. They were of the pop variety.
NSYNC - I Want You Back
This is when my unhealthy obsession with Justin Timberlake started.

Britney Spears - Baby One More Time
To this day, I still love me some B. Spears.

Jeez girl, I just spent all morning on your page, listening to all this fab music. I hadn't heard the NSYNC song in dayyyys!! And I LOVED all the local bands. I think they were my favorite! Thanks for sharing!
I need to listen to all this music! Maybe this will be my getting ready playlist today. Which is what I should be doing now, but here I sit in blogland instead!
Love the new music! I used to be good at finding great, undiscovered groups but then I got old and lame...I was totally a Backstreet Boys fan in my teen years!
Definitely some good stuff in there!
Oooh! I really like some of these! It's fun to look at how our music tastes have stayed the same or changed since we were kids. :-)
I just love Portions for Foxes. I'm looking forward to trying out some of the others listed that I haven't heard. I had a great musical upbringing too, I still love stuff me and my Dad listened to (Neil Diamond, Motown, Dire Straits), brings back great memories.
Oh man! Love me some Britney, N*Sync and the B-52's are my favorite 80s band! :)
Love that you like Bright Eyes. The Calendar Hung Itself is probably my all-time favorite. I used to play it for my students all the time for different types of writing prompts. I think I'm going to go listen to it on repeat now!
Adding the Mynabirds of my list of new music to check out! Great post!

Gah. I love them. But I DO feel like dancing when I listen to them!
Best concert I have ever been to in my entire life. Fo sho.
That's better than me serenading Andy with Call Me Maybe last night.
It's because it's so good. She lives two streets over from where we were in Dundee when you were in town!
I loooove them. She lives only about a mile away from me too :)
Senor Conor Oberst lives in Omaha. He walked in front of me a few weeks ago at our favorite restaurant. It took all I had to not go all fan girl on him.
I was so obsessed with that song in high school. It was on repeat constantly. Also, I Never by them is amazing.
I still love me some Green Day and B-52's though :)
Don't worry, we can still be friends even though you're a BSB fan.
I have a getting ready playlist for going out, but in the morning before work my getting ready playlist includes me groaning about not wanting to go to work.
I was singing it out loud at work. Not embarrassing. Not at all.
I told Jes I would trade her the wasp for the bat I saw last week. Even trade? I think not but she can have the bat anyway
