Marnie, Hannah, Jessa, and Shoshanna
Girls is the brainchild of writer Lena Dunham, who also happens to play Hannah. This show has exploded into the media since it first aired. Even James Franco wrote about it in the Huffington Post. From the graphic sex scenes to the fashion, Girls has everyone talking.
I think what I like most about Girls is that it's about girls my age, the 21-24 range, in New York City. Minus Shoshanna, they have graduated and are now in the "real world" trying to figure out who they are and how to get by. Marnie works at an art gallery, Hannah is constantly in between jobs and trying to finish her book of essays, Jessa had a stint as a babysitter after flitting around Europe, and Shoshanna is a student. Each person is plagued with relationship problems, as often girls of that age are.
Now let's get this straight, 4 girls in New York City... does the concept sound familiar? Sex and the City anyone? Except it is probably the farthest thing from Sex and the City on tv right now. Although, Shoshanna said that she likes to picture herself as a "Carrie", but she puts on her "Miranda" hat at school, and sometimes she is a little more "Samantha", which is hilarious as she is a virgin.
The guys on Girls are crazy. Like legit crazy. Marnie's boyfriend Charlie suffocates her with love (he seriously is one of the sweetest guys I've ever seen on tv), Hannah's boyfriend Adam is a psychopath, Jessa leads on the husband of her employer, and Shoshanna is so painfully innocent it's funny.
The ladies deliver some amazing one liners that will have you in stitches. Some of my favorites include:
- "Tako. Um, it's with a "k". I can usually tell when people think it's with a "c"." - Adam's friend, Tako
- "You are from New York, therefore you are just naturally interesting." - Hannah
- "Guys will try anything once. Even love." - Jessa
- "I think journal implies a 13 year old girl who rides horses, and is obsessed with her mom, and it's not what I'm doing." - Hannah
- "I'm like the least virginy virgin ever." - Shoshanna
So if you haven't seen this show yet, get on it. It's smart, it's funny, and it's been renewed for a second season.

Love this show! I watched half the episodes in one day, and the rest in another. Crack spirit guide? My FAVORITE episode.
Shoshanna reminds me a blogger. I'll email you.
note to self: never name my daughter shoshanna. that's intense.
I have been dying to watch this show!
Shoshanna is my favorite!!
I've heard amazing things about this show. I feel like I would really get into it, but I don't have HBO. Netflix?!
I've never heard of this show but the quotes alone make me want to see it!
Hello! Great blog! The last post is very interesting and beautiful! Let's follow each other, if you agree, then let me know!)))
TEAMSHOSH.
because shosh would never have let a guy do the stomach thing to her. never.
Sounds like my kind of show! I'll definitely have to check it out!
I'm still not dressed yet and it looks like I'm not going to be for a while.
I keep hearing so much about this show, I've got to have a marathon to get caught up!!
Graphic Sex Scenes.
Nah.
I'm not into it. I think it's awkward enough watching Emily make out with Bachelors.
I can't stand the Bachelor or Bachelorette. I've already burned enough brain cells for a lifetime.
I've never seen this show, but their outfits in the first photo look super cute!
I haven't seen the show but I have all 10 episodes on my DVR for a long weekend to sit and veg. :)
