AC Issues

When we first moved into the Bungalow, we were under the assumption that the window air conditioner in the master bedroom was functioning. We assumed wrong. We moved in August in Nebraska, which means 100° at 114% humidity. We spent the first few nights dying a painful and sweaty death. Thankfully, Andy's wonderful parents came to the rescue with a window unit that they were no longer using. She wasn't pretty, but she worked beautifully.

Until a few weeks ago.

The middle vents went out first. Then the cover fell off. Then the far right vent went out, so we were left with one functioning vent for the entire upstairs. Not good. I don't know about you, but I CANNOT sleep when it is hot in my bedroom. Just not going to happen. So last night we went to Home Depot and bought a new one. Which wasn't cheap. Stupid air conditioners.

First we had to say goodbye to this thing:

That's the cover that fell off. It used to have a faux wood panel on the front (which can sort of be seen in the bottom left corner), but that fell off last year.

A little nasty close up action.

And then we grunted and sweated the new one into place.

Much better.

But then came the issue of the curtains. The new unit isn't big enough to hold them out of the way. And we need to have curtains there because the neighbors' motion sensor light has a history of going rogue in the middle of the night. I pinned them up, but they kept blowing in the lovely cool breeze coming from the unit. I came up with this cost effective solution:

A bottle of lotion to hold them down. Classy, I know.

We're all about problem solving at the Bungalow. Try not to be jealous of my amazing solutions.

It took awhile for the bedroom to cool down last night, but I think we are back in business. Just in time for it to be really freaking hot this week.
